In Ukraine, a project to commemorate fallen cultural figures has been created.

An online project commemorating fallen cultural figures due to the war with Russia has been established
Ukrainian state institutions and public organizations have created a joint online project to commemorate the cultural figures whose lives were taken by Russia. The initiative aims to preserve memory and engage in human rights activities. The project includes the names of cultural figures whose talent and creativity were cut short by Russia since 2022.
Among the initiators of the project are Ukrainian PEN, INDEX: The Institute of Documentation and Interaction, the Memory Platform Memorial, the Raphael Lemkin Society, the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, the ZMINA Human Rights Center, and NeMo: Ukrainian Heritage Monitoring Lab.
The initiators of the project aim to hold criminals accountable at the international level and preserve the legacy of fallen cultural figures through memorial events, media, and book projects.
'We have united the efforts of public and state institutions to tell the world about the talented Ukrainians taken by Russia and about the genocidal war that the Russians are waging against us, our culture, and our identity,' the initiators of the project state.
Currently, the project contains the names of 181 cultural figures who were taken by Russia. The initiators also invite sharing information about other fallen figures at [email protected], as monitoring continues.
The project considers all cultural figures who contributed to the development of Ukrainian culture, including authors, builders of cultural institutions, and professionals whose work had an impact on the local community.
It is planned to expand the monitoring for the entire period of the war that Russia began against Ukraine in 2014.
