Ukrainians in Poland explained whether drivers have to pay tax on imported cars.

Ukrainians will be informed whether they have to pay VAT on cars purchased in Poland.
Recently, the tax system in Poland has been facing serious problems in the automotive sector. A large amount of imported vehicles, frequent cases of VAT evasion, all these factors threaten the state budget and fair competition in the market.
During the import of cars, some dishonest sellers create fictitious companies to buy cars abroad. Then, when the cars are already imported, they do not pay VAT. This can become a problem for honest buyers of such vehicles.
If the tax authorities find that the previous seller did not pay VAT, new owners may have serious problems. They may be forced to pay the tax and penalties, and in the worst case, the car may be seized for inspection.
The Deputy Minister of Finance, Zbigniew Stawicki, stated that the law does not place the responsibility for non-payment of VAT on the final buyer if the fraud was committed by the supplier. Therefore, buyers are not obliged to pay the tax that was not paid by the previous seller.
To protect themselves when buying a car from abroad, buyers are advised to:
- Carefully check information about the seller - their registration, reviews, and business history. It is advisable not to choose companies with questionable reputations.
- Check the correctness of the documentation according to Polish requirements. Particular attention should be paid to invoices.
- If you have serious doubts, consult a lawyer before signing the sales contract. This will help avoid problems in the future.
The legislation does not place the responsibility for non-payment of VAT on the final buyer. However, for your safety, it is important to check the reliability of the seller and the correctness of the documentation before purchase to avoid problems during possible inspections.
We remind you that drivers were told what fines may threaten motorists.
