Boeing satellite disintegrated in orbit under mysterious circumstances.

As a result of an anomaly, the Intelsat 33e satellite lost connection and ceased operation. This information was reported by the international organization Intelsat on Sunday. The company stated that it is collaborating with satellite manufacturer Boeing and government agencies to identify the causes of this anomaly and conduct an analysis of data and observations.
According to confirmations from the US Space Force (S4S), the Intelsat 33e satellite disintegrated on October 19, 2024, at approximately 07:30 Kyiv Time. At present, S4S is tracking around 20 satellite fragments, and, according to ExoAnalytic Solutions, 57 fragments are observed. No threats from these fragments have been identified yet.
The Intelsat 33e was intended to provide communication in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Shortly after the satellite's launch in 2016, a problem with its movement was identified, causing it to reach orbit later than planned. A drive issue discovered in 2017 reduced its expected lifespan from 15 to 3.5 years. Another satellite created by Boeing, which was reported missing, was Intelsat 29e, after three years in space.
It is also worth mentioning that SpaceX plans to launch its future Starlink Direct to Cell service on mobile devices. This service will provide smartphone connection via satellite. The new feature will be implemented on existing phones with high-speed mobile internet and will work «anywhere you can see the sky».
