The trial of the doctors who treated Maradona in the final days of his life has begun.

On Tuesday, March 11, a trial began against seven medical workers who provided assistance to footballer Diego Maradona before his death. Among the accused are therapists, a psychiatrist, a psychologist, and nurses. They face up to 25 years in prison. This was reported by the publication Clarin, citing informed sources.
Maradona, who was the world champion in 1986 as part of the Argentine national team, died in November 2020 at the age of 60.
Maradona's death was associated with a cardiac arrest, but secondary acute pulmonary edema and chronic heart failure were also found. Experts also reported problems with the kidneys, liver, neurological disorders, and dependence on alcohol and psychotropic drugs.
Prosecutor Patricio Ferrari accused the doctors who treated Maradona of lying in court. He claims that everyone knew about the footballer's condition, but they hid the truth. The prosecutor believes that the medical team and those responsible for the unsuccessful treatment should bear responsibility for Maradona's death.
Ferrari stated:
Everyone who saw Maradona in the state he was in could see that his condition was critical. The doctors and those who treated him were deceived, and this happened due to their irresponsibility and unwillingness to be held accountable before the law.
The trial regarding Maradona's death will continue, and evidence will be presented to support the accusations against the medical workers.
