Norway is strengthening its preparation for war.

The Norwegian government has presented a readiness concept for a possible armed conflict with Russia. The main idea is to create a 'culture of readiness for war' among the population. This means that in every sector of society, government administration, and the economy, there must be defense plans.
Norwegian President Jonas Gahr Støre announced an increase in the size of the army and annual conscription for military service. Instead of 8,000 people, now 12,000 conscripts will serve in the military each year. The ranks of the police will also be replenished to enhance its capabilities.
'We have had difficult years with the pandemic, extreme weather events, and cyberattacks. The new concept 'White Paper on Comprehensive Readiness' has been created to prevent such situations and respond quickly to them. We must be prepared for crises and war, support military efforts, and cope with complex threats,' said the Prime Minister of Norway.
'This is a historic document. This is a decisive moment for Norway. We leave behind a period of peace that the past 30 years have been based on. In the future, we must plan for a new era,' said the Norwegian Minister of Emergency Situations.
The bill also provides for the possibility of using citizens aged 18 to 72 for work during wartime. The Minister of Emergency Situations called it a 'historic' report.
Earlier, Ukraine will receive military assistance from Norway amounting to 2 billion euros, which is the largest military support in the history of the country.
