The number of attacks on Sumy and the Sumy region has significantly increased recently. Even from a great distance from the front line, drones known as 'Lancets' and cheaper models like 'Molniya' are flying towards Sumy. This was reported by communication, electronic warfare, and intelligence expert Serhiy (Flash) Beskrestnov in an article by 'Glavkom' titled 'Putin's new target. What will happen next with Sumy'. According to him, there is also an emergence of new types of drones that are controlled by mobile communication signals. The Russians are searching for and using these new types of strike drones in these directions.
For example, if it's some kind of FPV, then large-sized ones with relays for long flight distances. Recently, a new type of UAV was shot down, one we had never seen before: a strike homemade device that reached Sumy and circled over the houses. Many of these UAVs are imprecise: they do not hit military targets but are more aimed at terrorizing the population. There was a story when such drones fell in the center of Sumy and a person in a civilian car was killed, who clearly was not a military target. So if we manage to find a target – great; if not – we'll strike wherever we can,' said Serhiy Beskrestnov. He also noted that many Russian channels emphasize the evacuation of the civilian population from Sumy and are trying to create psychological pressure. This pressure is supported by Russian attacks.
The residents of the city center are already feeling and witnessing everything that is happening. The number of rocket strikes and the number of drones flying into the city has increased. It cannot be said that this is a disaster and the Russians are throwing all their forces into air attacks, but the number of these attacks has significantly increased,' said Beskrestnov.Flash explained that Sumy is closer to the heights of the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, allowing Russian troops to use strike drones, multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), and artillery more effectively.
Our troops in that part of the Kursk region, where they are located, are essentially holding these very heights to prevent the enemy from attacking Sumy from these positions. From these heights, one can not only launch drones but also fire from MLRS and artillery,' Beskrestnov summarized.Earlier, the expert stated that the Ukrainian army currently has no universal method to counter guided aviation bombs (GAB), as they are extremely fast. Analysis: The increase in the number of attacks on Sumy and the Sumy region indicates an escalation of the conflict. Russian military forces are using various types of drones, including new models controlled by mobile communication signals. Many of these drones are intended for terrorizing the population rather than military purposes. The psychological pressure on the civilian population forces them to leave the city. Sumy is located closer to the heights from which Russian troops can effectively use strike drones and heavy artillery. The Ukrainian army does not have universal methods to counter guided aviation bombs. The situation in Sumy and the Sumy region remains tense and needs careful monitoring.
