During the defense of Ukraine in the war, the adopted son of Moshe Reuven Asman, the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine, was killed. The rabbi announced this in his Facebook post.
In 2002, we adopted an 11-year-old orphan named Anton Samborsky, but we gave him the Jewish name Matityahu in honor of the Maccabean hero who stood against invaders more than 2200 years ago - an event that is the basis of the Hanukkah holiday. - noted the religious leader.
Asman reported that his adopted son lived with him and his family for 10 years, but when he grew up, he decided to live independently.
Matityahu got married, and in May of this year, he had a daughter. But a week after the birth of the child, he was drafted into the army. After a short training, he was immediately sent to the front. - he added.
The Chief Rabbi of Ukraine last saw his son on July 17. And the next day during the battle, he went missing. His wife received an official document about his death.
On Remembrance Day of the Defenders of Ukraine, I pray for all the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of their country. Their courage and self-sacrifice will never be forgotten. Eternal glory to the Heroes who defended their Motherland! - wrote Moshe Reuven Asman.
Recall, on August 28, it became known about the tragic death of servicemember and activist Natalia Kuznetsova, known as Iranka, who lost her husband near Bakhmut.
