The Ministry of Social Policy reveals a new fraudulent scheme involving the misuse of citizens' personal data

The Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine has discovered a new method of fraud aimed at misusing citizens' personal data. According to this scheme, fraudsters spread false information that children urgently need to obtain the status of 'war child' to receive social assistance.

The Ministry of Social Policy claims that such information is fraudulent and the goal of this scheme is to gain access to citizens' personal data. The ministry advises citizens not to follow dubious links and not to disseminate information from unofficial sources.

Official procedure for obtaining the status of 'war child'

The Ministry of Social Policy reminds that the legitimate procedure for obtaining the status of 'war child' is defined by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated April 5, 2017 No. 268 (as amended). To obtain such status, an application and a package of documents must be submitted to the guardianship authority. Each child's needs are assessed individually, and after that, necessary social services are determined.

'If you see an offer to apply through a link on the internet, do not follow it - these are fraudsters', the ministry warns, urging citizens to trust only official sources of information.

Other types of online fraud

The Cyber Police of Ukraine has uncovered thousands of financial crimes online over the past year. Among the most common fraudulent schemes are 'Call from the bank', 'Friend in trouble', 'You have won a prize' and phishing during online shopping. A new fraud scheme has also emerged in Viber, where perpetrators pose as representatives of well-known services or companies and ask the user to enter an SMS code under the pretext of checking registration, confirming an account, or activating a new mobile tariff plan. Additionally, the mobile operator lifecell warned about a new fraud scheme with fake bonuses, where scammers offer non-existent cash rewards.
