Latvia plans to recruit women into the army from 2028.

Military conscription for women in Latvia may be introduced in 2028
Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds supports the idea of mandatory conscription of women into the National Defense Service. He emphasized that gender equality is an important issue, with examples of solutions in this area being Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.
The party «Progressives», represented by Spruds, also supports mandatory conscription for women. Previously, this idea did not have the support of the citizens, but over Time, opinions have changed.
"It is clear that this will not be resolved by lunchtime tomorrow. Discussions and dialogues need to be held within the coalition, parliament, and society. It's important that society supports this decision. We can plan the introduction of mandatory conscription for women in 2028, when up to 4000 women may join the National Defense Service," noted Spruds.
The Ministry of Defense previously considered discussion of this idea premature.
Latvia has also started constructing anti-tank ditches on the border with Russia and Belarus, which is part of the overall defense line of the Baltic countries.
The first fortifications are already being built near the border with Russia. Their purpose is to hinder tanks and transport if necessary.
