Poland

Status: Friend

For years there have been questions between Ukraine and Poland. Firstly, in historical terms, and secondly, in what is called the present.

Among the Poles, there are quite a number of people who have a specific attitude towards Ukraine. However, this does not change two facts:

  • The majority of Poles are friends of Ukraine
  • Poles did a lot for Ukraine at the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

Authorities: friends. Mostly

Slovakia

Status: Not a friend

This is not directly an enemy; Slovakia does not give its territory to the occupying country's troops and does not supply weapons to Russia (at least, officially). But it is unfortunately hard to call this country a friend.

Let's start with the Prime Minister. A name that is known to many Ukrainians.

Robert Fico took over the government of Slovakia in October 2023. In this position, he replaced the so-called 'technical' Prime Minister Ludovit Odor, who, like his predecessor, Eduard Heger, actively supported Ukraine in the war against Russia.

Fico has a radically different opinion. He actively contacts the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, criticizes Ukraine and specifically Volodymyr Zelensky, and also actively 'puts sticks in the wheels' of Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration.

Ukraine has complex relationships with neighboring countries such as Poland and Slovakia. At the same Time, despite historical and political differences, it is important to remember the constant need for cooperation and diplomacy to ensure peace and stability in the region.
