Norway: a huge container ship crashed into the shore near a resident's house

A resident of the coastal Norwegian village, Johan Helberg, woke up at five in the morning because a concerned neighbor rang his doorbell. In the yard in front of his house stood a gigantic container ship, but the Norwegian didn't even notice when the vessel crashed into the shore.

«I didn't really want to open the door at such an early hour,» – Helberg explained to the local TV station, TV2.

«I peeked out the window and was very surprised when I saw the huge vessel. It's just unreal; it was so tall that I had to tilt my head back to see it completely,» – he recalls in an interview with The Guardian newspaper.

In the garden, just a few meters from his porch, stood the NCL Salten container ship, which is 135 meters long.

«If it had gone another five meters south, it would have been in my bedroom. And I heard nothing,» – Helberg told the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation.

Fortunately, there were no casualties

Unlike Helberg, his neighbor, Joystein Jørgensen, who was the one who rang the door, saw and heard the incident. No one was injured, but the Norwegian police are investigating the reasons for such an event.

«I was convinced that the neighbor had already gone outside, but no. I didn't see any signs of life. Then I started ringing the doorbell, but no one answered. Only after I called him, I was able to get in touch with him,» – Jørgensen said in an interview with TV2.

The ship was sailing through the Trondheimsfjord towards the town of Orkanger but veered off course. The crew of 16 aboard the container ship was safe.

The container ship is still in Helberg's garden because the first attempt to refloat it was unsuccessful.

«I now have a very large neighbor, but he will leave soon,» – he says.

It is noted that in previous years, the vessel had already tried to run aground but managed to get back to sea on its own.
